Water has always been one of the subjects I return to again and again.

In this new 10-lesson series, we will dedicate ourselves entirely to the sea — its movement, atmosphere, reflections, changing light and endless moods.

From peaceful water and soft reflections to dramatic waves, boats, rocky shores and distant horizons, we will explore how to capture the feeling of the sea without trying to paint every detail.

This course is about learning to understand water while allowing watercolour to behave like water.

What We Will Explore

Across 10 different lessons, we will work on:

• Understanding the movement and structure of water
• Calm water and reflections
• Waves, foam and breaking water
• Transparency and depth
• Dramatic seas and changing weather
• Coastal atmosphere, fog and distance
• Rocks and shorelines
• Boats and their reflections
• Horizons and distant coastlines
• Light sparkling across water
• Colour relationships between water and sky
• Simplifying complicated marine references
• Loose and expressive brushwork
• Creating atmosphere without overworking the painting

Course Format

The course includes 10 complete online watercolour lessons.

We will work step by step through each painting, from composition and colour choices to washes, edges, brushwork and final details.

All students receive lifetime access to the course recordings, allowing you to paint at your own pace and revisit the lessons whenever you wish.

Reference photographs and class information will be provided for every lesson.

Personal Feedback

You will be able to submit your paintings throughout the course and receive personal feedback from me.

My feedback will focus not only on correcting individual problems, but on helping you understand how to improve your composition, values, colour, water control, edges and overall atmosphere.

And you don’t need to complete your painting during the scheduled class. You can watch the recording, work at your own pace and send your finished painting afterward.

Who Is This Course For?

The course is suitable for artists with different levels of watercolour experience.

I will demonstrate each painting step by step, but we will go beyond simply following a demonstration. I will explain why I make particular choices — composition, colour, values, edges, brushwork and, importantly, what I choose to leave out.

My goal is to help you become more confident painting water and develop your own approach to creating expressive seascapes.
